In Latin., Script: Written by one scribe in large round gothic bookhand. Index added later by Frater Elia Pinelli, in humanistic script., Three historiated initials; that on f. 3r (Sts. Peter and Andrew), the Calling of Sts. Peter and Andrew, is of high quality; purple with white floral highlights; ornate purple, blue and green fruit and floral border, inner margin, with candelabra, hairspray and gold dots. The two other historiated initials are of inferior quality: f. 78v (Holy Cross) Cross with Arma Christi and f. 220r (Mass of the Dead) two roundels: skull and cross-bones against a landscape and skeleton with scythe against a black ground. Very fine penwork 3- and 2-line initials: done in red or blue (one on f. 57r in gold), decorated with white bands and jewels, with blue and red penwork, large illusionistic jewel studs and simple fruit and floral borders, painted in purple, blue, green, and yellow or in pen, red, blue with some black and yellow; initial on f. 189r with two seraphim. Some 2-line initials incorporate ivy or fruit swags. 1-line initials, red or blue, divided, with blue or red penwork, jewel studs, circles and lozenges, in green, yellow and tan. Square musical notation on 4-line red staves. Rubrics throughout., Binding: 17th-18th centuries. Original sewing on 6 double cords, each covered with brown leather and probably nailed to inside of boards. Red and gold wound endbands. Heavy boards are covered with thick leather (cowskin?) and the spine is covered separately with leather nailed to the edge of each board. There are four brass corner pieces and a large central boss on each board, bosses protruding from the three outer edges, and a strap and pin fastening, the pin on the lower board., and An additional leaf with a historiated initial depicting St. Felicitas was removed from this manuscript at some point prior to its acquisition by the Beinecke Library. In Latin., Script: Part I (ff. 1-173): Written in neat gothic bookhand, above top line; glosses added by a variety of hands, some exhibiting anglicana features. Part II (ff. 174-197): Written in gothic bookhand with some marginalia by contemporary and later hands., Part I: Two illuminated initials in parallel positions on f. 1r, beginning mid-page and extending almost to the bottom of the leaf. The first initial composed of a gold trellis edged in black with heads of a grotesque devouring the trellis at top and bottom, and foliage designs in green and white scrolling around the body of the initial against pink interior with white highlight and gold balls. The whole on a rectangular ground tapering to a point at bottom, with white designs. The second initial, somewhat narrower and less ambitious in design, gold edged in black with blue interior and thin white design in center and two rosettes, one at top, the other at bottom, and a third stylized floral motif in center, all on a pink ground in the same shape as the first initial. In Latin., Script: Written in liturgical gothic verging on batarde, by one scribe., Crude miniatures by two artists whose compositions, figure types, and painterly technique reflect faintly the work of Jean Colombe, active in Bourges in the late fifteenth century. The miniatures by the first artist (all except ff. 74r and 138r) are in arched frames, in purple or crimson ink, occasionally with black cusping on the arch, tangential or close to upper bounding line, set within a 3/4 strip, either beige with alternating blue and pink flowers and black flecks, edged in black, or gold with blue and red trilobe leaves., Traced full or 3/4 borders, one (f. 25r) compartmentalized in gold and blue, with an angel bearing the arms of the Coquille family (azure, 3 escallops or [Coquille], impaled with ermine [Garnier]), red bounding line, filled with blue and green acanthus, flowers, strawberries, grotesques, gold balls, and pen flecks. Initials accompanying miniatures, 4- and 3-line, pink and blue with white highlights on gold, filled with a flower on a beige ground. The miniatures by the second artist (ff. 74r and 138r), probably an assistant to the first, are in thick crimson frames, with 3/4 borders as above, except with finer and stiffer acanthus, each with an initial, 4- or 3-line, gold on blue and crimson with white highlights. In Latin and French., Script: Written by a single scribe in Gothica Cursiva Formata (Bastarda) in two sizes. The ascenders on the top line often have calligraphic extensions., Red headings. Heightening of the majuscules in yellow. All initials (1- or 2-lines) are on a rectangular background and are executed in paint and liquid gold. At the opening of the various Hours there are 4-line initials of the same type, always accompanied by full acanthus borders and an arch-topped miniature. The borders are framed in gold and may also contain leaves, flowers, fruit, birds., and Binding: Modern limp vellum with two pairs of white leather ties. The preceding 19th-century binding is preserved: dark brown leather over cardboard, both covers framed with blind-tooled fillets; spine with four raised bands and gold-tooled title: "HEURES DE SENLIS"; gilt edges.

Each miniature facing a 6-line initial, black, with white highlights, on a gold ground, filled with blue and black trilobe leaves. Ten historiated initials, in the same style as the illuminated ones, illustrating the suffrages. Each initial with a border, as above. 2-line initials, gold on red and blue grounds with white highlights; some (on rectos) with black ink hair-spray with blue and gold flowers. 1-line initials, blue, with red penwork or gold, with black penwork. Rubrication for headings and to mark antiphons, verses etc.; also for dates and major feasts in calendar., and Binding: Sixteenth century. The backs of the quires are cut in on either side of the sewing supports and at the kettle stitches. Original sewing on five supports attached to wooden boards. Edges gilt and gauffered. Covered in dark brown calf with a panel stamp of two sets of horizontal inhabited vines within text borders, divided by a line of fleurs-de-lis and flowers in diamonds. The four panels are enclosed by the inscription: "Ora pro nobis sancta dei genitrix ut digni efficiamur promissione Christi". Spine lining, endbands and silver (?) clasps and catches added when the book was rebacked. One joint cracked.

In Latin., Script: Written in small gothic bookhand; arts. 2 and 4 in less formal scripts., Two historiated initials, 7- and 4-line. Folio 1r: mauve initial with white filigree on blue ground with white filigree, edged in gold, showing a man drawing water from a well, against gold ground, illustrating the Biblical passage "Haurietis aquas...." Serifs, ending in heart-shaped red leaves, on blue and red cusped grounds, with gold balls, extending along the inner margin to form a partial bar border. Perched on the top of the initial is a small bird, grey with red wings. Folio 1v: blue initial with white shading against dark red ground with white filigree. Ascender blue against dark red ground, extending along text column to form a partial bar border. The initial shows the good Samaritan riding on a donkey, against gold ground. Numerous flourished initials, 4- to 3-line, alternate red and blue with penwork designs in the opposite color. Running headlines in red and blue. Paragraph marks alternate red and blue. Guide letters for decorator visible beneath initials., and Binding: Sixteenth century, Germany or Italy (?). Resewn (early) on three tawed skin slit straps laced through tunnels in the edge of beech boards to channels on the outside and pegged; channels filled with glue. A pink, green and white, five core endband is sewn through a leather lining on a tawed skin core laced into the boards and pegged. Covered in brick red sheepskin with corner tongues; blind-tooled with an X and sparse use of oak-leaf edging tool. Two truncated diamond catches on lower board, the upper board cut in for the red fabric clasp straps which were attached with star-headed nails. Corner fittings and six-petalled central medallion. Traces of title, in ink, on spine. Spine of the bookblock partially eaten by rodents.
