To the left of the farmer their two young children, a son (holding a candlestick) and daughter (animated like her mother) stand before the hearth which is equipped with andirons and pots. Behind them along the wall hang baskets, onions and kitchen utensils (colander). The farmer's wife has been identified as Mrs. Mary Bradshaw.
