A richly dressed young woman standing behind the chair leans forward looking at him with a sceptical expression on her face. On the other side, another young woman leans close to him, upsetting in the process a table on which a black servant was about to place a tea tray. In the background on the right, a serving maid walks into the room, her arms raised in alarm
