A young military officer, his hat on the table, leans over to kiss her, while the serving maid prepares to exit at the door on the right, admiring the ring on her finger with which she has apparently been bribed. In the lady's hand is the leash for her pet squirrel, who investigates a basket of peaches on the table. At her feet lies an open book "The agreeable dream realized" and another on the table is titled "Chloe caught napping".
