Abstract: On the right, an old gentleman with wooden left leg stands between a tree and a mile marker trying to conceal with the spread tails of his coat an old, obese lady hiding behind him in a half-crouching position. The driver of a phaeton brings his horse to an abrupt stop just in front of the pair. He casts an amused glance at the viewer while pointing to the pair with his whip. The marker reads "XXI miles from London."
