She is seated on the side of the bed, only partially dressed, waiting to be served breakfast by her slatternly attendant. A kitten plays at her feet as she swings a man's watch. In the background, a justice of the peace, his finger to his lips, creeps into the room with three atttendants, apparently unnoticed by the women
