The houses opposite, lit by a full moon, show that the ground is far below. The victim's head and shoulders are outside; he desperately clutches sash and sill, kicking violently. A terrified woman stands by the bed. Her huge bonnet hangs on the wall. In the struggle the dressing-table glass has been thrown to the floor, where it lies, with lighted candle and watch and seals.
