Description
A large group of Chinese gather outside the Hartwell Memorial Church to receive rice during a famine. Prof. Talbot and Mr. Christian can be seen center-left. Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive. This photo is from the papers of Emily Susan Hartwell, who was an American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions missionary stationed in Foochow, Fukien from 1884.
