Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive. Emily S. Hartwell presides over a group of orphaned Chinese boys at the Ah do Christian Herald Fukien [Fujian] Orphanage. The boys in the front row are mostly refugees from the northeast of Fujian. Emily Susan Hartwell was an American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions missionary stationed in Foochow, Fukien from 1884.
