John Sutherland Whitewright, a British Baptist missionary, established the Gotch-Robinson Training Institute shortly after his arrival in China in 1881. The college was established with the purpose of training men of a more advanced age than the youths who went to the mission boarding school. Men, women, and children are posed in front of the Gotch-Robinson Training Institute in Tsing Chou Fu, Shantung [Qingzhou Shi, Shandong]. Some adults are in Chinese-style clothing and others are in Western-style clothing.
