3. "Parade ground scene in Canton City previous to parade off Shameen on June 23 which resulted in the exchange of shots, one Frenchman being killed on Shameen and 53 Chinese students killed, 150 wounded by machine gun fire. The man speaking in the picture is a Russian." People gathered outdoors, and two people standing on a platform, presumably to give a speech. Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive. Photo relates to the Shameen incident of June 23, 1925, part of a nationwide series of strikes and demonstrations precipitated by the killing of 13 labor demonstrators by British police in Shanghai.
