Crowd listening to the speech of Liao Chung Kai, Minister of Finance of the Canton Government, since assassinated August 20. Liao Chung Kai was credited with being an ultra 'Red'." "Legend on banners-- 'We must not forget the Shanghai incidents' 'We must develop our labor industries' 'Canton Christian College students parading in sympathy for slain Shanghai students, May' 'Abolish the mixed court.' " [now Guangzhou] A large group of students in white uniforms and hats. Many are holding up banners.

Photo relates to the Shameen incident of June 23, 1925, part of a nationwide series of strikes and demonstrations precipitated by the killing of 13 labor demonstrators by British police in Shanghai. Students most likely from Canton Christian College, which was later known as Lingnan University.
