The back of the postcard is blank and contains a printed title: "Missions Maristes d'Oceanie - 17 - Ceremonie du Kava aux Iles Samoa." ("Marist Missions of Oceania - 17 - Ceremony of Kava in the Samoa Islands.") The back also contains information from the publisher: "Editions Procure, 123, Chemin de Choulans, Lyon." The Marists were a Catholic missionary order.
Two Samoan men and one woman sit on the ground near a large bowl. The woman pours liquid into the cup of a third man who bends over the bowl.
