Large growth below right earTitle supplied by curator.Date supplied by curator.Sixteenth Report of the Ophthalmic Hospital for the Year 1850 and 1851, printed at the office of the Chinese Repository, p. 22: No 37596, October 7th, 1850, Glandular tumor under the ear, Liáng Siun, aged 30, a farmer of the district of Shunteh, had a glandular tumor on the right side of his face, extending from the auditory foramen to the clavicle perpendicularly, and from the angle of the mouth to the mastoid process horizontally, and measuring twenty-two inches in circumference, and projected six inches and more from its base. It was highly vascular, and from previous inflammation the superincumbent skin and integument adhered extensively to the tumor, rendering the dissection tedious and difficult, which was performed, however, under the influence of chloroform. The whole time occupied in the dissection and taking up of the arteries was about thirty minutes. The chloroform was required to be reapplied several times. The weight of the tumor was about four pounds. The loss of blood was considerable, but the patient sustained it well, and without any untoward symptoms, perfectly recovered, and was discharged in five weeks in good health.This electronic record is derived from historic data and may not reflect our current information.
