In his left hand he holds a wine-glass in which kneels a tiny screaming Napoleon, submerged to the waist, with both arms raised above his head. His left foot rests regally upon a cushion, but the slashed shoe indicates that this is on account of gout. He wears dress of ancien régime type, with the ribbon and star of St. Louis.
