Half-length portrait of Richard Bentley; in his right hand he holds his own design of the figure of Melancholy, drawn by him for the edition of Thomas Gray's Odes (1753).

After a portrait by John Giles Eccardt, commissioned by Horace Walpole, that hung in the Blue Bed Chamber at Strawberry Hill. Cf. National Portrait Gallery, London, no.: NPG 5885.
Date based on date of William Bawtree's death.
