In the bottom row four bewigged judges, three of whom are asleep, are seated on the bench in Westminster Hall. In the top row are eight caricatured heads, two representing one of the judges below, the others, two versions of the lame man in Raphael's Sacrifice at Lystra (extreme left) and apostles in Leonardo's Last Supper. The lengthy text explaining the character, caracatura, and outrè etched on a second separate plate below plate with image begins: There are hardly any two things more essentially different than character and caracatura ...

The judges were identified by Nichols (Biographical anecdotes) as William Noel, Sir John Willes, Henry, Earl Bathurst, and Sir Edward Clive. See British Museum online catalogue.

- George Steevens bequeathed this collection to William Windham. At Windham's death, the collection was sold on 20 July 1810 to Mrs. Windham and passed down through the Windham family to R.W. Ketton who sold it at Sotheby's 17 February 1919 to Dyson Perrins. Sotheby's sale including Property of the Late C.W. Dyson Perrins, Esq., June 11, 1959, lot 100 bought by W.S. Lewis via Maggs Bros.
