Portrait of the English antiquarian Ralph Bigland, three quarter length, directed to right, looking over his shoulder to left; wearing official robes decorated in armorial emblems, a short wig, and the chain of office; his right hand gloved and grasping the hilt of his sword, his left hand resting upon papers with a coat of arms visible on the uppermost sheet
