Two images, the bottom of which is a saracen's head in profile above a banner with the Walpole motto "Fari quae sentiat". Above, an armorial shield surmounted by the head of a black man with a kerchief around his head and decorated with flags and a cannon protrude from its sides; branches extend outward from the pile of dirt at the base of the shield, on which cannon balls and a drum sit

Unsigned; attribution to Thomas Kirgate from note in pencil on mounting page: "Evidently drawn by his printer Jos.[?] Kirgate."
Date of production based on artist's death date.
Mounted on page 'g' in an extra-illustrated copy of: Walpole, H. Fugitive pieces in verse and prose. [Twickenham] : Printed at Strawberry-Hill, 1758. - Provenance
- Formerly owned by Thomas Kirgate and E.V. Utterson, with their manuscript notes in the volume and with Utterson's armorial bookplate. Sold by King and Lochée, 4 December 1810 (Kirgate Sale), lot 350, to Utterson; later sold at Sotheby's, 27 April 1852 (Utterson Sale), lot 1829. Sold again at Sotheby's, 15 December 1941 (Miscellaneous Sale), lot 140, to Maggs for W.S. Lewis.
