Collection consists of approximately 120 letters and cards from James Purdy to his assistant and friend Elaine Benton, dating from 1983 to 1999, writings, and other materials. Benton served as Purdy's typist, and the writings include typescript drafts and photocopies, many corrected, of stories, plays, and poetry. Other materials consist chiefly of printed ephemera relating to appearances, publications, and theatrical productions
