Abstract: Two memoirs, autograph manuscript, signed, titled "Globe trotter," 4 pages, and "The voyage of the globe trotter," 30 pages. Reed writes about his travels to South Africa, Australia, Hong Kong, Ceylon, India, and the Arabian Peninsula. He also writes extensively about his experience converting to Islam; his travels throughout the Arabian Peninsula, particularly Mecca and Medina; his return to America; and life in Truro, Nova Scotia. The memoirs were apparently written following Reed's later conversion to Christianity through the Salvation Army.
Description: Cyrus Adams Reed was born in Salem, Oregon in 1876. Reed was orphaned and traveled to Cape Town, South Africa in 1896; to Sydney, Australia, Hong Kong, Ceylon, and South Africa in 1897; and to Durban, India, and the Arabian Peninsula, returning to the United States at an unidentified date. While in the Middle East, Reed converted to Islam.
