Abstract: Two ALS to "My dear Doctor," describing living conditions and military affairs at Fort Randall, and activities of family and mutual friends. The two letters are dated April 5, 1875, and February 14, 1876, and were written when Lugenbeel was a Lieutenant Colonel with the 1st Infantry.
Description: Born in Maryland; career U.S. Army soldier who served in the Mexican and Civil Wars and on the Western frontier; retired as a colonel in 1882, and died in 1886.
