Abstract: Eleven autograph letters, signed, from Leonard Wright Colby and Clara Dorothy Bewick Colby to Rowel and Abigail Livingston Colby, parents of Leonard Wright Colby. The letters concern Leonard and Clara's attempts to establish a home and business in Beatrice, Nebraska. Leonard also seeks funds from his parents to purchase property and establish a law practice, Colby and Sale, and Clara shares news of their social activities and gardening efforts. Also included are two letters from unidentified family members to Rowel and Abigail Livingston Colby regarding family and social news.
Description: Clara Dorothy Bewick Colby (1846-1916), women's rights activist, journalist, newspaper publisher, and lecturer; married Leonard Wright Colby.
Leonard Wright Colby (1846-1924), son of Rowel and Abigail Livingston Colby; soldier in the United States Army, state senator of Nebraska, 1876-1896, and assistant attorney general of the United States, 1891-1893; married Clara Dorothy Bewick Colby.
