Contains notes from Macdonald's three visits (October 1851, July 1852, 1853), with newspaper clippings; the verso of leaf 49 is inscribed: "My visits to the N.A.P / 28 pages / complete March 1854." Also present are three illustrations of the Phalanx buildings: one wood engraving cut from Barnum's Illustrated News (April 1853) and two graphite drawings, one signed "AJMC Oct 12 1851 N.A.P." along with a short list of citations for articles on the community. Some of the information was provided by Charles Sears.

The newspaper clippings are mounted on colored proof sheets from Fletcher's Devotional Family Bible (New York: George Virtue), and two works published in New York by John Tallis and Co., Tallis's Illustrated Atlas and Modern History of the World, and The American in Europe by Henry Clay Crockett.</dc:description></oai_dc:dc>
