Description: BEIN Osborn pa50: Imperfect: corners of A1, A2 and P4 torn; dark staining on upper portion of pages 1-55. Unidentified ownership inscription on t.p. dated 1733. From the library of Richard White (1539-1611) of Basingstoke, England; his "liber amicorum", interfoliated with blank leaves, signed by forty acquaintances, some with verses or short texts, with dates from 1567 to 1600. Ms. calculations on P4v. In case with spine title: Liber amicorum.
Signatures: A-O⁸ P⁴ (versos of A1 and P4 are blank).
Title-page, text, and images within ornamental borders. Several of the borders have the initials P.V.
Woodcuts by Pierre Eskrich, also known as Pierre Vase, in imitation of the designs of Bernard Salomon for Jean de Tournes. Eskrich also did the title-page border. Cf. R. Mortimer, French 16th cent. books, 15; or Baudrier, v. 9, p. 46-47, p. 55. Woodcuts have been wrongly attributed to Pierre de Vingles.
