Slide number 4. Image set number CCXVII. Tree of Hope was an elm tree that originally stood in front of the Lafayette Theatre between 131st and 132nd Streets. On November 4, 1934, Bill Robinson replanted its stump on a traffic island on 7th Avenue at West 131st Street.
