The collection contains legal documents, primarily land records in the form of deeds, leases, and quit claims, executed by residents of New Haven and New London counties in Connecticut, in particular families in the towns of Branford, New Haven, and Norwich. Among the surnames most prominent in the collection are Bradley, Daggett, Dunning, Howe, Howell, Hotchkiss, Leffingwell, Lewis, Root, Skinner, and Trowbridge, with some of the deeds related to settlement of estates in these families. Also present are documents related to Scipio C. Augustus and Bias Stanley, both African Americans and residents of New Haven, and the city's Eagle Bank. Documents relating to Stanley include records of the African United Ecclesiastical Society in New Haven

- Box 1 contains Scipio C. Augustus, John Bradley, Henry Daggett Estate, and Leeman Dunning. Box 2 contains Eagle Bank, Hezekiah Howe Estate, Thomas Howell, Hotchkiss Leases, and Addin Lewis Estate. Box 3 contains Joel Root, John Skinner Estate, Bias Stanley, and Trowbridge. Box 4 contains Branford Deeds, New Haven Deeds, Norwich Deeds, and Connecticut Deeds.
