Clinton Gardner worked on the US/Mexico boundary survey from 1849-1854, and then for his father, Charles K. Gardner, Surveyor General of Oregon. He served as Assistant Astronomer and Surveyor to the Commission appointed to establish the Northwest Boundary in 1856. He spent the remainder of his career managing several railroads in the east. His brother Charles T. Gardner was also a surveyor in Oregon, and fought in the Oregon and Washington Indian Wars.</dc:description></oai_dc:dc>
