Description: Manuscript captions and numbers on verso.
After working as a photographer with the California State Geological Survey and the U. S. Corps of Engineers Survey of the 40th Parallel, Carleton Watkins traveled independently to Nevada, arriving in Comstock in 1875. He photographed the mining towns of Gold Hill and Virginia City in 1875-1876.
