- Description
- Merry Maker (7:9), cover of complete issue. Formatted and laid out like the contemporary Life magazine, cartoon showing Uncle Sam shooting cannon balls each labeled "pill" into the mouth of a monkey-like toreador. Uncle Sam has no stethoscope or doctor's bag, so the pills are the only medical signifier. Masthead appears on page 16. "The Merry Maker and American House and Home: A journal of Humorous Literature, published monthly by the House and Home publishing Co., 154 Nassau Street, New York City." Subscription is 50 cents a year in advance. Back cover has a story without words in six scenes. "The Rise and Progress of a Mad Dog Scare" including panicked people and a policeman shooting wildly. In the end a calm dog walks away. Signed "Phillips--Dunk." Hansen database #4450
