This drawing and the following two drawings were executed by Meadows for a review in The London Illustrated News of Every Man in His Humour as staged by Dickens's amateur theatrical group. The review, published on page 329 in the 22 November 1845 issue of the paper, was illustrated with wood-engraved copies of Meadows's drawings.
