Manuscript volume containing the constitution and minutes of the New Bedford Anti Slavery Society. Includes the signatures of approximately 123 men and women present at the meeting when the Society's constitution was ratified, and copies of minutes of the Society's meetings from June 25, 1834-August 7, 1835. Among the signatures are the names of many prominent Black and white men and women of New Bedford, including: Nathan Johnson; Richard Johnson, founding president of the New Bedford Union Society; Reverend Jacob Perry, pastor of the African Christian Church in New Bedford; William Rotch, Jr.; Joseph Congdon; and John O. Choules. The volume also contains a manuscript court docket ledger and index of names from New Bedford, Massachusetts, with entries from July 1843-April 1847
