Giovanni Battista Cortona, Libro di Abbaco. General Collection, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University.
Manuscript on paper. The manuscript presently consists of two units, A and B, each with its own 17th-century foliation. From the survey of the contents in art. 7 it appears, however, that the two units were originally one with the following order of leaves: A1, B1-16, A2-20. Written by one hand in brown and red ink in calligraphic Gothica Cursiva Libraria (Cancelleresca). The poem on f. A1r (art. 1) is in calligraphic Humanistica Cursiva Formata. A few titles in Capitalis.
Probably an autograph manuscript. From the Auersperg library, foliated by the same 17th-century hand as several other manuscripts from this collection. Collection of A.R.A. Hobson, London. Purchased from Laurence Witten in 1984.
The decorative frames on ff. A1r and B1r are traced in brown ink. The upper half of the former contains a baroque cartouche in brown and red, containing a monogram apparently consisting of the letters A, K and M. Art. 2 opens with a flourished initial, art. 7 with a calligraphic initial, both in red.
Thick paper with watermark anchor, var. Piccard, Ankerwasserzeichen?, V.102?.
