- Manuscript, in several hands, containing two letters written by Elizabeth Montagu. The first letter, signed by Montagu and addressed "To Doctor Monsey," admonishes the recipient's attachment to "Miss B," warning him, "Do not sadden your retirement & embitter your life by hopeless love." She describes the recent marriage of her elderly brewer to "a jolly lass of 25," urges him to visit, and asks him in a postcript to get her a "bottle of eye water." The second letter, written in another hand and addressed to "The Revd. Dr. Percy," apologizes for Mrs. Montagu's illness and subsequent absence "when he did her the favour to call," and requests him to call again and "bring certain manuscripts in his pocket." The volume also includes an engraving of Elizabeth Montagu.

- 47 letters and documents, on paper (one document on parchment) in various cursive scripts, produced in England between 1554 and 1706. Mostly from the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, they consist of claims for expenses, wages, and other benefits. They include an account of a banquet (15 November 1561), signed by the Marquis of Winchester and Sir Walter Mildmay; a Claim for Allowances (1563) by Sir Thomas Chaloner, Ambassador to Spain; L. S. (1578) by Lord Burgley about money to be sent to Ireland and mentioning Sir Philip Sidney; A. L. S. (1597) by George, Lord Hunsdon; A. K. S. (Chester, 11 Aug. 1601) by the antiquary and mathematician Edward Brerewood to the Privy Council. The documents also include signatures of other government officials and nobles. and The documents derive from the papers of Robert Petre, Auditor for the Exchequer, and his colleague Vincent Skinner.

Other poems satirize women, including Barbara Villiers (afterwards Palmer), Countess of Castlemaine and Duchess of Cleveland, with reference to her affair with rope-dancer Jacob Hall; Mrs. Moseley and her link with Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Baron Ashley and 1st Earl of Shaftesbury; and women's conduct generally. The collection also includes a broadside printing of Packington's Pound, as well as numerous satirical songs sung to its tune.

- Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of approximately 105 poems divided into "Miscellaneous Pieces," "Songs," "Cantatas," "Odes," Satirical Pieces," "Mock-Pieces relating to the Stage," and "Imitations." The first "Imitation" is a sonnet concerning an abortion scandal surrounding Mademoiselle de Guerchi in 1660, and is addressed in her voice to her aborted "embrio;" other poem titles include "An Ode, Inscrib'd to his grace the Duke of Buckingham, on his Embarking for France," "The paper Bonnets worn by Ladys," "On seeing lewd Women refus'd Admittance," "Fungus," "The poor & Rich Rogue," "Prologue to a Puppet-Show," and "The Shipwrack'd Sailors." The collection is prefaced by a dedication to Viscount Nessuno in the voice of an "orphan Muse" who writes, "should she beg your Lordship...to favour her with a corner of the Green-house in delightful Groves of Utopia; there to correct at Leisure, the numberless Reams she has scribbled within these twelve years: And should she afterwards implore your Lordship to assist the publication of her labours, by raising a handsom subscription among your friends for that purpose...she is certain your Lordship would not deny her one of them." - Manuscript fair copy, of dated entries recounting the departure from Liverpool, the shipwreck on the Barbary Coast, the crew's enslavement in northern Africa, and their return to Dartmouth. Many entries concern the work done, foods, illnesses and injuries, and racial and religious differences encountered. The June 16th entry mentions the separation of "the mate and my relation," and the volume also contains, in the same hand, an account of a group separated from the Captain from June to October 1789, signed Jas. Irving Junr., and titled "A very short account of what happened to me after the seperation on the 16th of June 1789."

[for] health, long life, ritches, virtue, wisdom, viygor and victory." The text opens with a generalized cosmology, including discussion of the nature of light and of the Zodiac, and mentioning the meteor fireball of March 1719. - Highly detailed accounts of both receipts and expenses (written from opposite ends of the volume) kept by the London merchant Abraham Chitty, brother of Alderman Thomas Chitty. Receipts include records for rents on his properties in London, Westminster and Surrey, as well as income from an interest in a brewhouse and insurance records for warehoused goods such as wine. The record of Chitty’s personal expenses is particularly complete and includes 6s. "for Pamila. 2 Vollums;" "about L1.4s.6d to see The Conscious Lovers" at Covent Garden Playhouse in 1739; and 14s. for "Chockolate, Mackoroons, carraways and oysters." Also included are regular payments for housekeeping expenses "For Mrs. Chitty;" purchases at auctions and sales, such as "a barometer;" and frequent carriage repairs.
