Within the arch above the text is a cartouche with a picture with a pitcher pouring water into a basin. This image is in honor of the bridegroom who is a Levite. Throughout the ketubah are Biblical quotations written in exquisite micrography and larger block Hebrew letters.

Marriage contract, manuscript, ink and paint on paper, dated the 23rd of Elul 5656 at Mashhad (1896). Red and green rules divide the paper into rectangular sections. The middle section contains the text of the ketubah, while the top and sides are filled with elaborate arch and floral patterns in blue, gold, and silver paint. Above the text are good wishes and the verse, ""I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God. For he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels"" (Isaiah 61:10). Strips of red paper pasted on all four sides frame the ketubah. There is some damage to the text containing the Isaiah quote, as well as some damage to the borders.
