Mostly from the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, they consist of claims for expenses, wages, and other benefits. They include an account of a banquet (15 November 1561), signed by the Marquis of Winchester and Sir Walter Mildmay; a Claim for Allowances (1563) by Sir Thomas Chaloner, Ambassador to Spain; L. S. (1578) by Lord Burgley about money to be sent to Ireland and mentioning Sir Philip Sidney; A. L. S. (1597) by George, Lord Hunsdon; A. K. S. (Chester, 11 Aug. 1601) by the antiquary and mathematician Edward Brerewood to the Privy Council. The documents also include signatures of other government officials and nobles. and The documents derive from the papers of Robert Petre, Auditor for the Exchequer, and his colleague Vincent Skinner.

Speckled calf, the sides undecorated, the repaired back in compartments with gilt tooling, the original title-stamping defective, speckled edges; restored by Carolyn Horton, November 1955., Part I: Headings in red throughout, that on f. 1r overwritten in an intense red ink covering earlier writing in pale red ink, the intense ink then used for the remainder of the headings in this portion of the codex, and the overwriting probably by the original scribe. Plain, small, roman capitals at beginnings of sections of the text in blue or green; a large initial "D" and a full border no f. 1r, as well as a smaller initial "L" at the beginning of the second book of text, foot of f. 25r, all finely illuminated in gold and colors in the "white-vine" style, the lower part of the border on f. 1r with a coat of arms consisting of a shield azure, a bear rampant or. Part II: Undecorated., and Script: Part I (ff. 1-40): Written by one hand in a neat, minute humanistic cursive. Part II (ff. 41-52): In an Italian hand.

Abstract:
A Shīʻah treatise to prove that Imams and prophets do disappear and reappear (a fundamental Shīʻah doctrine), by Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī ibn Bābawayh al-Qummī (918 or 919-991 or 992), also known by the epithet "al-Shaykh al-Ṣadūq" (the Trustworthy Shaykh "Master"), the most learned Shīʻī thinker of his day and one of the most important Shīʻī scholars. The work is also listed in reference sources under its longer titles "Ikmāl al-dīn wa-itmām al-niʻmah fī ithbāt al-ghaybah wa-kashf al-ḥayrah" and "Kamāl al-dīn wa-tamām al-niʻmah fī ithbāt al-ghaybah wa-kashf al-ḥayrah" (See: Brockelmann, GAL, S I: 322). Copied on Saturday, 20 Jumādá al-Thānī, 1034 (30 March, 1625) at "Qaryat Hāndūkafarḥay [?] min maḍāfāt baldah muʻaẓẓamah [...?]" (location could not be identified). Name of copyist not mentioned.
