The volume includes speeches and letters relating to the murder of Thomas Overbury and the trial of Walter Raleigh; a description of voyage to France to aid the Huguenot cause in 1626-7 and seige of La Rochelle; a factual account, with figures, of fighting in Thirty Years' War; "The examinations of the counterfett ghost that came into St James on fryday night the 13 of 9br 1612, beeing that day sennight after Prince Harries death," whose testimony was taken by Sir Thomas Chaloner and Sir John Holles; and the confession of Anne Lady Ross to the Star Chamber declaring that she had perjured herself by "accusing the said Right Honorable Countess of Exeter with an intent & purpose to poison" her. The volume also contains a copy of the will of Holles' father, Thomas Holles of Haughton, dated 17 March 1592 and "written in his owne hand"; and "A prayer wch my deere sister Wentworth did use, coppied from her owne hand, wch I had of my mother 24th Jan. 1631."

In Latin and Spanish., Script: Written by a single scribe in rotunda, very well executed, with additions at end of estaciones in rotunda and humanistic script, by later hands., Initials, ff. 20r-21v (2-line), in alternating red with purple penwork and blue with red penwork. 1-line capitals sometimes have yellow wash. Rubrics in orange-tinted red, paragraph marks in blue. Added memoriae for Don Diego de Mardones have elaborate penwork cadeaux at the beginning., Offset impression of red lines (from pastedowns or flyleaves now lost?) appear on ff. 1r (running vertically) and 21v (horizontally); no loss of text., and Binding: Sixteenth century. Resewn on three small, vegetable fiber supports laced into wooden boards. The spine is square and lined with vellum between the supports. Covered in tan sheepskin blind-tooled with a floral roll border and arabesques in the center. A paper label on the upper cover: "Noviembre." Rebacked.

On ff. 1r-30v Mariani provides a list of colors and the recipes for each color; in the remainder of the text he discusses techniques for painting landscapes in perspective. The second portion of the treatise (ff. 84r-95v) is, according to the title-page, the work of Antonello Bertozzi (fl. ca. 1590). The focus of this section is on painting watercolor portraits rather than on painting landscapes. On ff. 97v-113v, miscellaneous additions in at least 3 hands, dated 1612-1627
