Cartes-de-visite photographs created by photographers in the United States and Canada of Indians of North America, ca. 1860-1875. Images consist chiefly of portraits depicting men in traditional clothing, with a few examples of women and children. Tribal groups represented include Dakota, Fox, Navajo, Paiute, Paloos, Sauk, Shoshoni, Ute, and Yankton. Identified individuals include Spotted Tail, a Dakota chief; and Wolf Necklace (Harlish Washshomake), a Paloos chief. Another identified image consists of a copy photograph of a painting of Keokuk based on a daguerreotype made by Thomas Easterly in 1847 and Photographers and galleries represented include: A. W.
