- Manuscript on paper, in a single cursive hand, of notes on some cases heard in the Court of King?s Bench in 1677 and 1678. and Many of the notes concern the trials involving Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury, including his suit for slander against Lord Digby, the habeas corpus issued for him, and his own trial in King?s Bench. The notes include summaries of the arguments made by Shaftesbury?s and Digby?s representatives and the debate concerning the """"prorogation"""" or """"adjournment"""" of Parliament.

- Abstract:
- 47 letters and documents, on paper (one document on parchment) in various cursive scripts, produced in England between 1554 and 1706. Mostly from the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, they consist of claims for expenses, wages, and other benefits. They include an account of a banquet (15 November 1561), signed by the Marquis of Winchester and Sir Walter Mildmay; a Claim for Allowances (1563) by Sir Thomas Chaloner, Ambassador to Spain; L. S. (1578) by Lord Burgley about money to be sent to Ireland and mentioning Sir Philip Sidney; A. L. S. (1597) by George, Lord Hunsdon; A. K. S. (Chester, 11 Aug. 1601) by the antiquary and mathematician Edward Brerewood to the Privy Council. The documents also include signatures of other government officials and nobles. and The documents derive from the papers of Robert Petre, Auditor for the Exchequer, and his colleague Vincent Skinner.

- Manuscripts, in different hands, of a collection of several dozen primarily satirical and anonymous poems, many scatological. The majority of the poems are political satires, especially concerning the abdication of King James II and the accession of King William III; other targets include Charles Montagu, Earl of Halifax; religious zeal; and France. Other poems satirize women, including Barbara Villiers (afterwards Palmer), Countess of Castlemaine and Duchess of Cleveland, with reference to her affair with rope-dancer Jacob Hall; Mrs. Moseley and her link with Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Baron Ashley and 1st Earl of Shaftesbury; and women's conduct generally. The collection also includes a broadside printing of Packington's Pound, as well as numerous satirical songs sung to its tune.

- Manuscript on paper, in a single secretary hand, of personal accounts on behalf of Lady Anne Clifford. The manuscript records gifts from various sources, such as gold "geven by my Lady of Warwick to my La. Anne at the court," and money allowed by her mother, Lady Cumberland, as well as its expenditure on clothes, charity, and play. Entries include sums "Given by my La. Anne for a reward to a poore woman that brought her Lap. apples & cakes," "for half a thousand of pynnes," "delivered to Mrs. Taylor for buying a white parchmt fanne for my Lady Anne," "geven by my Lady Anne to ii poore men in the fields," and "lost at cardes." The manuscript also records sums borrowed by Lady Anne, and the names of her creditors.

- Binding: Nineteenth-century boards with rough calf back, worn, defective, and repaired, plain edges, probably an American binding., Mellon MS 159, acquired from Laurence Witten (bookseller), New Haven. Gift of Paul and Mary Mellon, 1965., Script: Calligraphically written in a variety of scripts, most of the text in a skillful Fraktur, by a single hand except for a few later additions., Watermarks: Paper watermarked with a tall, thin pot with a single handle, plain and very crude, not identified., and Written in German with Latin headings and some cryptic writing. The ink, mostly very dark, has often bled into the paper and has sometimes had a corrosive effect.
