- The volume contains bass or continuo parts to Sonatas, Airs, Overtures, Dances, and other pieces by Henry Purcell ((1659-1695), Daniel Purcell ([1660]-1717), John Jenkins (1592-1678), William Lawes (1602-1645), Nicola Matteis, Diedrich Becker, Robert Wren, A. Poole, Matthew Locke (1630-1677), and Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680). The volume is written in several hands, and William H. Cummings, a biographer of Purcell, has written on l.11: ""This curious book contains several pages undeniably in the handwriting of Henry Purcell..."" The other hands are attributed by Cummings to Pelham Humfrey (1647-1674), John Blow (1648-1708), and William Croft (1678-1727).
