Description:
Identified in pencil recto within photo, beneath figure. Autograph? "With compliments to my dear friend Miss Anthony, J. H. Kent" in pencil, verso, top. "Died Feb. 20, 1895" underlined in ink, verso, left below pencil inscription. and This presentation photo of Douglass appears to have been presented by the photographer to Miss Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906) of Rochester, N.Y., abolitionist and suffragette. Miss Anthony showed Mr. Douglass to his seat when he arrived, on the afternoon of February 20, 1895 at the Washington D.C. Women's Convention. It is suggested that the ink inscription on the verso might be that of Miss Anthony herself.
