"A short fat man (left) dressed as a military officer, clasps the inflated petticoats of a thin woman who walks away from him, looking over her left shoulder, her hand raised in a negative gesture. She is much taller than her admirer, and shows a hideous profile, her mouth wide open; her attitude is theatrical. She wears a high cap and the extended petticoats which had recently been fashionable (see BMSat 7099, &c). He looks up at her with a yearning smile. Both are grotesquely caricatured."--British Museum online catalogue.

"The Prince of Wales, languid with repletion, leans back in an arm-chair, holding a fork to his mouth. His waistcoat is held together by a single button across his distended stomach. On his right a circular table covered with the remains of a meal, with decanters of 'Port' and 'Brandy', a castor of 'Chian'. Under the table, partly covered by the cloth, are empty wine-bottles. Behind the chair (right) a brimming chamber-pot stands on a table or commode on which are long bills: 'Poulterers Bill . . . unpaid, Butcher's Bill . . . unpaid, Baker's Bill . . . unpaid', and (on the ground) 'Doctors Bill'. In the foreground (right) lie a dice-box and dice with three books: 'Debts of Honor Unpaid', 'Newmarket List', and 'Faro Partnership Account Self Archer Hobart & Co.' On a shelf behind the Prince (right) is a triple stand of jelly-glasses, among which is a small pot: 'For the Piles', and a bottle: 'Drops for a Stinking Breath'. Beside it are a box of 'Leakes Pills', and a bottle of 'Velnos Vegetable Syrup' (see BMSat 7592). On the wall above is a candle-sconce with a burlesque coat of arms for the Prince: a plate with a crossed knife and fork, with his motto, coronet, and feathers; one candle is stuck in a wine-bottle, the other in a wine-glass. Above the Prince's head is a round picture in an elaborate frame inscribed 'L. Comoro, Ætat. 199 [sic]': a half length portrait of a man with a long beard drinking from a glass inscribed 'Aqua'. (Luigi Cornaro of Padua, 1467-1566, published 'Discorri della vita sobria . . .', a treatise on the means of living to extreme old age, describing the ascetic diet by which he had recovered health and vitality when in danger of death at the age of forty. Portrait by Tintoretto, Pitti Palace.) A carpet covers the floor. Through the window is seen the (unfinished) colonnade of Carlton House."--British Museum online catalogue.

A tall, thin gentleman in a military uniform walks accross a mountainous landscape carrying on his back an obese parson with a "Tithes" basket full of chickens and a sucking-pig under his left arm and a scourge with three lashes in his right hand. Behind them and in front of his sheaved harvest stands a farmer dressed in a smock, with a branch in his right hand and his hat in the left. "A bedroom scene. Lady Hamilton, grotesquely fat, but with traces of beauty in her features, rises from a curtained bed, arms and one leg extended in a burlesqued gesture of despair. She wears a nightgown and lace-trimmed cap. Behind her in the shadowed depths of the bed the night-capped head of her elderly and (?) sleeping husband, rests on the pillow. She looks, weeping, towards an open sash-window through which is seen a fleet sailing towards the horizon. In the window (left) is a cushioned window seat on which (besides a stocking) is an open book: 'Studies of Academic Attitudes taken from the Life'; on one page is a nude woman lying in sensual abandonment. On the right against the curtains of the bed is a dressing-table on which, besides toilet-articles, are a flask of 'Maraschino', a 'Composing Draught', and a pot of 'Rouge à la Naples'. On the carpeted floor (right) are objects from Sir W. Hamilton's collection, with an open book: 'Antiquities of Herculaneum Naples Caprea &c. &c.'; on the right page is a satyr chasing a nymph. They include an oval gem, a figure of a squatting monster, headless, the base inscribed 'Pri[apus]', a laughing bust of 'Messalina', statues of a Venus and a Satyr, coins or medals, one inscribed 'Ovid', another 'Tibertius'. In front of Lady Hamilton are the slippers she has kicked off, and a garter inscribed 'The Hero of the Nile'."--British Museum online catalogue.

"A fashionable crowd, with two card-tables, a round table in the foreground (left) at which four persons play Pope-Joan; the most conspicuous is a pretty young woman directed to the left, her loose semi-transparent draperies revealing her person and leaving her breasts almost uncovered. A leering man stands behind her chair, negligently holding candle-snuffers to a candle on the table, in order to peer down her décolletage. A stout lady in back view, sitting on a stool (identified as Lady Buckinghamshire, but (?) Duchess of Gordon), a little girl, and an elderly man (identified as Dr. Sneyd) complete the table. On the right is another card-table at which three persons are playing. Standing figures freely sketched form a background, the whole design being dominated by the erect feathers of the ladies, usually springing from a turban."--British Museum online catalogue.

"Two enormously fat courtesans sit side by side on a settee which they completely fill; between them and on the knees of both sits the Duke of Norfolk, a wine-glass in his left hand, in his right he holds the hand of one of the women at whom he gazes with a smile. Both women look amorously at him; they are dressed decorously and without extravagance. At the Duke's feet lies his baton as hereditary Earl Marshal. Above the two women is etched: (left) 'The Royal Sovereign, was formerly to be seen by all admirers of Natural Curiosities at Sixpence pr Head, & is reported to weigh near Forty-Stone', (right) 'Nell H--t--n, weighs rather under Thirty Stone; & in the absence of the Great Man, his place is agreeably filled by T------ W-----d, the celebrated collector on the Highway.' Charles Fox, with a fox's head and tail and an expression of delight, holds open the top of a large sack almost completely filled with coins. Opposite him, Lord North, standing on a substantially diminished pile of coins, carefully adds another shovelful to the sack. The sack is signed, "For private use." Behind them on the wall, under the ribbon signed, "For the use of the publick," several smaller empty sacks hang on a rope stretched between large pegs.
