- Binding: original, worn velvet over wooden boards., Decoration: heraldic illumination on f. 1v of two angels holding a coat of arms, overpainted to that of the Totewhill family (sable, three covered cups argent); the mitre associated with the abbacy of St. Albans floats above. Borderwork around the miniature consists of gold leaf and alternating red and blue flowers. 1 four-line gilt initial "M" on 2r with accompanying blue and red design and gold borderwork with blue and red background. Between 1 and 3 two to three-line gilt initials per page with blue and red background. Rubrics in red., Ex libris St. Albans Abbey. Ex libris the Totewhill family of Cornwall. Purchased from Christie's London sale (2017 July 12, lot 13) on the James Marshall and Marie-Louise Osborn Fund, 2017., Layout: single column of 14 lines., Script: main text in a humanist hand, possibly that of George Hermonymus. Later English and Latin verses in three early modern hands., and The manuscript contains a dedicatory preface from George Hermonymus to "Gulielmum," the Abbot of St. Albans, either William Albon (1465-1475) or William of Wallingford (1476-1492); this manuscript was probably presented while Hermonymus was on a diplomatic mission to England between 1475 and 1476. The coat of arms of the Totewhill family of Cornwall have been overpainted in the heraldic miniature.

- Manuscript on parchment, composed of 2 parts, both of uneven quality. Part I of the codex written in the 15th century. The final quire, written probably in the 14th century, was bound in with the first 186 ff. in the 16th or 17th century. Contains excerpts of historical tracts, medical recipes, charms, prayers, notes on parliament, philosophy, and dream interpretation, proverbs, poems, notes on horses and hunting, and excerpts from astronomical and religious tracts

- In English and Latin., Script: Part I (ff. 1-186): Written in Anglicana, by 2 main scribes, with abundant notes and texts added in margins and blank spaces by other hands. On ff. 179r-181r the scribe begins in Anglicana formata but lapses into a more cursive grade. Initials (3- and 2-line), underlining, rubrics and slashes at ends of sentences in red. From ff. 103r-140v, 3- and 2-line initials in blue with red penwork and long flourishes; on ff. 30r-31v (on the exchequer), checkerboards in blue, red and black in upper and lower margins. Water stains on ff. 1-2, only affecting a few words of the text. Part II (ff. 187-193): Written by one scribe in an uneven 14th-century Anglicana. Three-line initial on f. 187r not filled in. Outer column of f. 187 cut off., and Binding: 16th-17th centuries. Limp, flush boards are made up of fibrous, felted material (paper?) sandwiched between two layers of vellum, which extend across the spine. This case is glued and tacketed to the bookblock with three tackets consisting of at least six threads each. Stitches go through the spine linings around three threads at head and tail. Covered with tawed skin, originally pink, the turn-ins glued over the pastedowns. The cover extends in fore-edge and envelope flaps. Some rodent damage on the upper board and part of the envelope cut away. Discoloration and traces of adhesive on three outer edges of envelope flap.

- Robert Melton was the co-executor of the estate of John Cornwallis (d. 1506), Lord of the Manors of Brome, Stuston, Okley, and Thranston, whose family possessed Brome Hall from early in the 15th to the 19th century., In Middle English., Watermarks: similar to Briquet Armoiries 1038 for part of quire I and all of II; similar to Briquet Main 11399 for remainder of quire I, all of quires III and IV, part of V; similar to Briquet Navire 11971 on ff. 68, 79 only; similar to Briquet Lettre P 8586 on ff. 72, 75; similar to Briquet Main 11152 on ff. 73, 74; unidentified watermark on f. 81., Script: Written primarily by two persons: Scribe 1) ff. 1r-26v, 28r-44r, 68r-77r, 79v, 80v-81r. Written in small, well formed Anglicana script with first line of each text in formal bookhand. Scribe 2: ff. 27r-v, 45r-60r, 62v-67v, 77v-78v, 80r, 81v. Written in a large sprawling script; no ornamentation. A third person added art. 17 at a later time., Only scribe 1 included decoration. Initials in red, 4- to 2-line, with penwork flourishes in brown; initial strokes in red. Portions of text underlined in red; rhyming verses often bracketed, in red, at end of lines. On f. 14v, a fine half-page drawing in red and brown of the monogram IHS which incorporates both a heart pierced by a lance and vine patterns and tendrils. Art. 4 is illustrated with drawings of dice, in red, in outer margins., First leaves heavily stained; lower right corner waterstained ff. 1-43., and Binding: Between 1490 and 1500. Original sewing with long stitches through a thick rectangular piece of leather on the outside of a vellum wrapper. Contemporary scroll design added to upper cover with unidentified inscription, in red, mostly illegible.
