Description:
The Yale insignia, including the phrase Lux et Veritas, at top center of a vertical rectangle surrounded by a decorative border. Beneath this reads "Gift of Dr. Lambert's nephews — Dr. Adrian Lambert B.A. 1930; Dr. John T. Lambert B.A. 1935; Dr. Samuel W. Lambert Jr. B.A. 1919; Dr. Dickinson W. Richards Jr. B.A. 1917." This bookplate is probably from the period when medical books were kept in a collection at Sterling Memorial Library, before the Yale Medical Library was built. Alexander Lambert received his BA from Yale in 1884, his Ph.B. from Yale in 1885, and his M.D. from Columbia in 1888.

A shelf of books with a candle. Above the shelf, in quotes is written "Alere Flammam". Beneath the shelf is a line marked "No.", and at the bottom of the bookplate is a line marked "Baltimore", and "/18".
A shield with a gules chief and three dove upon it. Beneath the field paly or and azure. At center is a smaller shield, with an ermine fretty and a sable pale with three doves upon it. Surrounding the shield is elaborate leafing, in addition to flowers and grasses. At the helm, atop a torse, is a fox with an ermine spot at the end of its tail. Further below the shield, amongst the title text, are several books—both opened and closed.
A figure dressed in a black coat and a black fedora adorned with fishing lures holds fishing rod in the right hand, and a fish still attached to the line in the left. The image is flanked by a hanging fish, with a book in the lower right-hand corner with the motto Omnia Ab Libris Expiscor.
