In Italian., Script: Written by three persons in round gothic script: Scribe 1, ff. 1r-33v (except f. 8, replaced in 16th century); Scribe 2, ff. 33v-36v; Scribe 3; ff. 37r-74r. In portions written by Scribes 1 and 2 some elaborate ascenders and descenders in upper and lower margins, touched with red., Initials, 3- to 2-line, in red or blue, sometimes with red penwork. Rubrics throughout. Initial added [date?], f. 2v, to replace one removed: blue, with leafy filler in green outline, and foliage extending down margin and across top and bottom of column, drawn in green, red, and blue., Initial removed from f. 2v; leaf was then reinforced with paper covering f. 2r, col. b (blank). Lower margins of ff. 1, 33 and 37 cut off., and Binding: 19th-20th centuries. Vellum spine and fore-edge strip with marbled paper sides. Label on spine: "Donne Illust. del Boccacc. MS".

In Latin., Script: Part I written in round gothic bookhand by a single scribe who made neat corrections, often on lines ruled in the margins. Part II written in well formed gothic textura., Part I: Border decorations: long stems, inner and top margins or between text columns, in blue, pink, and grey segments divided by small balls, sprouting curling foliage (blue, light blue, and orange), concentrated at corners, with large spiky leaves at terminals and large spiral angular returns filled with mauve or gold in the lower margins; large gold dots tucked under leaves and trailing from the tips of leaves on thin brown pen lines. Initials, 4- to 3-line, attached to stems, pink and grey with white highlights; foliage serifs, as above; letters filled with blue and gold, with some vine work (green and grey), against gold grounds with thick black edging. 2-line initials, set into text columns, blue or red, with very elaborate, minute penwork, blue, red, and occasionally green, built up of small spirals, roundels, and long "caterpillar"-like segments, often extending the full length of text columns; with curling flourishes in margin. 1-line initials in Table of Contents red or blue, with thin vertical strokes in the opposite color; chapter numbers in red. Headings and paragraph marks in blue or red; rubrics throughout., Part II: Plain initials, 5- to 3-line, alternating red and blue, with large serifs; one on f. 300v in red and blue. In Latin., Script: Written in a small round gothic bookhand by two scribes. Scribe 1) ff. 1r-37v, 67v-75v; Scribe 2) ff. 39r-67r., One 6-line initial, red and blue, filled with red and blue penwork in a floral pattern. 4-, 2-, and 1-line pen initials, red, with long trailing serifs and blue calligraphic flourishes. 2- and 1-line initials outside text column. On f. 1r, arms of the duchy of Austria (crudely executed; later addition?):, or, two eagles palewise displayed and crowned sable (Hungary): impaled with barry of 6 gules and argent; supported by griffins passant gules; the whole set between thick pink bands. Line-fillers red undulating lines. Rubrics throughout., and Binding: Sixteenth century. Sewn on three supports, the two outer ones leather, the central one tawed skin, laid and nailed in channels in wooden boards. Plain wound primary endbands sewn on a tawed core at the head and a leather one at the tail, laid in grooves and nailed, with a secondary embroidery added. The square spine is lined with vellum between supports. Covered in dark red goatskin, blind-tooled, with four brass catches on the lower board. Leather cracking along joints, clasps wanting.
