A Chinese village lies between two hills on the Yangtze River. A small fleet of sail boats lines the coast by the village., Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive., and This photo is from the papers of Dean Goddard, who was an American Baptist missionary in Ningpo, Che-chiang, China from 1870-1903.
1. - Madagascar -Village de la Cote Est A light palisade of sticks encircles a village composed of thatch-roofed housing. Palm trees rise among the buildings, and a few children play in front of the palisade., Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive., and The back of the postcard has no handwriting on it. Printed in the margin of the correspondence section is "En vente pour "l'Oeuvre des Pretres malgaches" "79, Avenue de Bretuil, Paris XVc"
Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive., Hte Volta - Le Village se rend a la Fete. ("Haute-Volta - The Village goes to the Festival.") Over forty indigenous men stand in front of a row of stone structures built into the side of a cliff. On top of the cliff stands a group of thirteen women. Postcard issued by "Missions des Peres Blancs.", and The back of the postcard is blank.
“Missions des Pères du Saint-Esprit. ̶ Congo Français. Femmes travaillant à la poterie.” A woman is shown putting the finishing touches on a pot she is making while a group of men and women stand nearby. Different shapes and sizes of earthen vessels are displayed in the area. There are a few lines of handwriting in French on the back.
“Le Village Malgache attend le Missionnaire.” Villagers are shown lining the road into town awaiting the arrival of a missionary. The caption and following information are printed on the back of the postcard: “L’Œuvre Apostolique prend à sa charge le culte dans les Missions. Siège central: 108, rue de Vaugirard, Paris (6e). Chèques Postaux: 378.58.” Aulard et Cie, 6, Rue du Virux-Colombier, Paris.” There is no handwriting on the back.
“Presbytère de Minnampalli.” Two missionary fathers are depicted outside their house. Villagers and a dog are shown in the street next to the house. A camera on a tripod is seen in the foreground. “Le leçon de catéchisme.” A missionary father is shown using pictures to teach the local people about Christianity. The name of the publisher, “A. Dubosq, édit., Commes (Calvados) ̶ Déposé.” is printed on the back of the postcard. There is no handwriting on the back.
