Description:
Binding: Original Italian brown leather over thin wooden boards, the covers blind-tooled and decorated with gold dots. Spine with three raised bands. Remnants of two clasps, attached to the front cover by means of brass nails with engraved heads; palmette-shaped thin brass catches fixed to the rear cover with three nails each. The pastedowns and flyleaves are covered with carefully written notes and quotations on grammar, morals, education, etymology and meaning of rare words, variant readings in classical texts, etc., Script: Copied by one hand in careful Humanistica Textualis., and Space for headings was provided at the head of each Satire, but the headings were not executed. Satt. 2-16 open with a 3-line (6-line Satt. 6 and 7) plain initial (Capitalis) in blue. On f. 1r (Sat. 1) 6-line white vinestem initial integrated in a three-margins left border in the same style and colours; in the lower section of the latter, between two birds, there is a damaged coat of arms in a wreath. 2-line plain inset initials (Capitalis) alternately red and blue, with guide letters. Between two successive Satires 1 line is left blank. In the lower margin of p. 9 there is a clumsy drawing in pale ink of a rabbit (?); an unidentified drawing (part of a dress?) is seen in the lower margin of p. 38 and part of the same in the lower margin of p. 99 (with offset on p. 98)., Binding: Nineteenth century, England. White parchment over cardboard, the covers gold-tooled with a double frame of fillets and a small circular stamp in the corners; the spine entirely gold-tooled with various designs; at its top a red leather label with the gold-tooled title “IVVENALIS / MS.”; at the bottom a small label in the same material and colour with the gold-tooled inscription “SÆC. / XV.” Dark red marbled endleaves. Binding: Eighteenth century. Brown calf over wooden boards, blind-tooled. Five very small, round bosses on each board and two fastenings. Rebacked. Pastedowns and flyleaves are conjugate leaves from a gradual (Italy, 16th century): front pastedown hidden under bookplates; front flyleaf with parts of the third Christmas mass and the rubric for Circumcision; back flyleaf with part of the first Christmas mass; back pastedown with parts of the mass of Epiphany., One 9-line initial, f. 1r, St. Saturninus holding an open book and martyr's palm, three-quarter length in front of trees and sky, dark blue with white filigree; purple foliage against a gold ground edged in black, with curling purple, green, and gold foliage extending into margin. Full border, framed in blue and gold, with three roundels in lower margin, right and left, hour glasses with scrolls with the motto "Pan. se. de. moi.", center, a coat of arms (barry of 6, sable and argent; overall a bend or). In upper margin, at right, a smaller roundel with a duck; at center, a Greek cross in gold, on purple; each framed in gold with blue or purple. Some foliage, as in initial, in center outer margin; border otherwise filled with blue and purple flowers with red and green centers, symmetrically disposed with smaller blue, purple, and green flowers, blue, purple, red and gold dots and fine spiralling vines in light brown. 2-line initials throughout, red or blue with blue or red penwork, with flourishes. 1-line red or blue paragraph marks. Rubrics throughout., and Script: Written by one person in round gothic bookhand.

Description:
Binding: modern full red leather., Bonizo of Sutri was born around 1045, probably in Milan, and was appointed bishop of Sutri soon after his arrival in Rome in 1074. He was sent to Cremona as papal legate in 1078. Bonizo sided with Gregory VII during the investiture controversy, and lived for several years under the protection of Countess Mathilda of Tuscany., From the library of Thomas Gascoigne. Description:
Binding: 16th century light brown leather over wooden boards, both covers blind-tooled with a double frame of multiple fillets, the inner frame divided by two diagonals. Small engraved bronze bosses at the four corners of the inner frames. Remnants of two clasps attached to the front board, with decorated brass catches on the rear board. Rebacked., On folio 1recto there is a 17-line historiated initial, showing the author presenting his work to Emperor Frederick II on horseback. The initial has been erased and the scene is hardly recognizable., and Script: copied by one hand in Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria/Formata (Rotunda).

Binding: Sixteenth century (?), Italy. Stays made from parchment manuscripts adhered inside of quires and outside of first and last ones, the pastedowns included. Original, wound sewing on three tawed skin, kermes pink, slit straps laced into paste boards. The endbands, caught up on the spine, are sewn on tawed skin cores laced into the boards. Covered on greenish tan tawed skin (sheep?) with corner tongues and the remains of two tawed skin ties. Remains of title scratched on upper cover "Logica Paul*"., Purchased in 1955 from L. C. Witten by Thomas E. Marston., Red or blue initials, poor quality, 7- to 3-lines, with penwork designs in red, blue and/or black. Binding: Sixteenth century (?). Undecorated orange-brown sheepskin over pasteboard, the spine with three raised bands. Pastedowns and flyleaves from four leaves of an 11th-century manuscript, containing part of the Office for the burial of a monk., In Latin., Numerous red paragraph marks in the left margins. The treatment of the headings is not consistent. 2-line (rarely 3-line, on f. 1r 4-line) initials in red at the head of all major subdivisions; they are plain initials on ff. 1r-30r, often flourished initials (black or red penwork) from f. 31r onwards, but the flourishing appears to have been blotted out., and Script: Copied by two scribes. Hand A (ff. 1r-30r, 14) writes a careful Gothico-Humanistica Textualis Libraria; Hand B (ff. 30r, 15-91v) writes a more rapid Gothico-Humanistica Cursiva Libraria/Currens. The parts copied by the two scribes differ from each other also in the style of the text and the headings.
