Abstract:
The papers consist of materials sent by Leslie Marmon Silko to Per Seyersted, a professor in the American Institute at Oslo University, Norway. Along with letters from Silko to Seyersted from 1974-1995 are drafts of writings by Silko, several photographs, and an offprint of an interview of Silko done by Seyersted.

Charles Demuth (1883-1935) was an American watercolor artist who turned to oils late in his career and developed a modern art movement known as Precisionism., Folios 203, 207, 209-10, 213, 216, 218, 220, 227-229, 244, 250-260, 272-276, 287-289, 291-292, and 298 are missing., Gift of Ann Grether Hill, 1988., and Richard W. C. Weyand (1905-1956), born Richard Conklin Weyand, was the son of Edwin Stanton Weyand (1863-1913) and Wilhelmina Thompson Weyand (1873-1943). He had two sisters, Dorothy Adams Weyand Grether (1897-1982) and Louise Victoria Weyand White (1899-1924), as well as two brothers, Edwin Stanton Weyand (1903-1973) and William Rodgers Weyand (1908-1970). Weyand served in the United States Navy during World War II, 1942-1945. Weyand and Robert Evans Locher (1888-1956), a close friend of artist Charles Demuth, operated an antique store and lived in the former home of Demuth in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 1943-1956.

A typed prospectus (21 p.) for the Aspen Smelting Company accompanied by a stock certificate for 600 shares of the company, issued on July 14, 1924, to G. D. Sutton. The prospectus includes a fold-out chart of mineral production in Pitkin County from 1880 to 1924; a record of mining leases and royalty schedules; a financial statement dated August 31, 1925; airlift data; and operating costs. Seven photographs, including one of company president R. P. Sharpe and six of various mining properties, are tipped onto pages of the prospectus.

Purchased from Brian Levine on the Arthur Corbitt Hoskins Memorial Fund, 2005. and The Aspen Smelting Company was organized in Delaware in 1924. The company owned and leased several properties in the Aspen Mining District of Pitkin County, Colorado, including the Cowenhoven Tunnel, the Durant Mine, and the Smuggler Mine.

The Walter O. Evans Collection of James Baldwin is comprised of a typescript draft of Baldwin's Another Country (New York: Dial Pub., 1962) and correspondence sent from Baldwin to Mary Garin-Painter, David Adams Leeming, and Eugene Lerner dating from 1953 to 1987. In his letters Baldwin discusses his writing projects and personal life (ranging from his relationships to his experience living abroad in France and Turkey). Baldwin also reflects on his experience at the MacDowell Colony where he was in residence while working on his novel Giovanni's Room. The correspondence constitutes a window into Baldwin's creative process and life during this period.
