The first edition of Kafka’s first book publication. The slim volume, issued by Rowohlt in 800 copies, brings together unrelated prose fragments Kafka had written for two journals between 1908 and 1910. Only 300 copies were distributed before Rowohlt sold the remaining copies to another publisher, who issued them with a new title page. Copies of this true first edition are exceedingly rare; this one even preserves the publisher’s advertisement in the form of a book strip.
Nr. 1 includes 2 drawings by Max Ernst., Nr. 1 only. Bookplates of Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning. Original wrappers bound in. Binder's stamp: Leroux 1971., and Nr. 1-nr. 7.
