- Abstract:
- Marriage contract, manuscript, ink on paper, dated 25th of Adar 5645 (1885) at Ohran. There is no decoration. The text is written in Sephardic script. The border consists of blessings for the bride and groom written in Hebrew block letters. There is a French stamp on the top left hand corner. The text refers to the groom as ""Ish ma'aravi,"" a man whose family came from Morocco. The ketubah is dated and is signed by two witnesses, however the names of the bride and groom have not been filled in. According to the scholar Moshe Bar-Asher, French Algerian law did not permit the completion of the ketubah before the secular marriage license. Presumably the scribe intended to add the names once the civil marriage was officially documented.
